Harrow School Angling Club

Newsletter Winter 2009/10

The 2009/10 AGM will be held on Thursday 1st April 2010 at the Post Office Club, Greenford Road in Sudbury. The Club is situated behind the Rising Sun pub just a short walk from Sudbury Hill station and access is from the road at the side of the pub. There is plenty of car parking and the bar is open from 7pm for an 8 o’clock start. As before, sandwiches and snacks will be laid on. We look forward to seeing you there.

Please remember that nominations for Committee membership and any motions to be included on the AGM agenda must be submitted to the Secretary before 1st March. You will be able to view the proposals and motions on the Club website and notice boards at both lakes after 1st March. We asked a respected fisheries consultant to provide advice on fish care and water management and some of her recommendations will be included in these proposals.

Renewal forms for next season’s membership will be sent out before the end of January and must be received back before 31st March. New members will be considered for membership after this date. As with last season a £20 working party levy has been added to the senior subscription fee and £10 will be refunded for each working party attended (maximum refund £20). This money will continue to be invested in improvement and maintenance work at both lakes. After three years with no increase unfortunately it has been necessary to increase subscriptions slightly this year.

Working parties will be held on the following dates: Harrow on Sundays 21st and 28th March, 4th and 11th April and at Riverside on 18th April. Times are 9am to 12.30.

Following some poor catches at Riverside this season we are undertaking a restocking programme of bream, small carp, tench and crucians. At Harrow we will be thinning out the small roach and stocking small carp, skimmers and some chub.

Congratulations go to all this year’s trophy winners. Kevin Wigglesworth was the summer league champion with Don Gray second and Dave Bartlett third. Mark Grassi was the second division champion with Graham Clutton second and Elaine Wigglesworth third. Kevin Wigglesworth also won the Evening League with Trevor McGahey second and Bradley Verity third. Richard Lear won the second division mini series with Graham Clutton second and Jack Williams third.

There were once again some excellent performances in the Junior Match held at Harrow which was won by Lindsey Brady (age 10) with 60lb, second was Billy Wood (11) with 55lb and Kye Butcher (12) was third with 35lb. The other nine juniors who fished were James Wyatt, Charlie Jacobs, Dean McGahey, Mat and Sam Butcher, Rob Harding, Jamie Willis, Danny McGahey and Jamie Doolan and all managed to catch something, so well done to all of them. Thanks also to Peter Wyatt for organising the event and all those who helped him make the day a huge success.

There will be a one off match at Riverside on Sunday 25th April. Draw 8.00. Fish 9-3pm. Numbers will be limited to 15 and places must be pre booked through the Fisherman’s Cabin.
