Harrow School Angling Club

Charity Match at Harrow School Lake on 26th September 2010 &

Presentation to the Twilight Nurses on 10th December 2010

In September last year John Hardy, one of the club’s founder members and a lifelong angler sadly passed away aged 71 after bravely fighting cancer. During his last months

John had been wonderfully cared for by the Twilight District Nurses based at

the Northwood Health Centre, Northwood, Middlesex..

In John’s memory the Club members wanted to show their appreciation for the care with which the nurses had looked after him. Along with John’s wife, Nora, and John’s sons who are also club members, we decided to hold a sponsored match at Harrow School Lake in the grounds of Harrow School. This was held on 26th September and raised a total of £1265.00, a fantastic effort. After all the money had been collected a cheque was presented to the nurses on 10th December at Northwood Health Centre. It was great that

some of the nurses who had cared for John were able to attend, along with Nora and John’s sons, Lee and John Paul. The Club was represented by Jack Williams, Dave Bartlett, Elaine Wigglesworth and Ken Begner..

Although the actual fishing was secondary to raising money for the charity there was some good catches taken despite the cold weather with Don Gray winning with 52lb 13oz of carp, Mark Udall was second with 50lb 6oz and Vic Gosling third with 36lb 4oz. Twenty three members including John’s sons took part all of whom had obtained sponsorship and donations. Nora and the family were also on hand to provide encouragement and much needed food and drink

It was a fitting way of remembering John.
